How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Once appointed, the Council will serve as the premier national advisory committee on advanced manufacturing. The objectives and duties of the Council are to identify and recommend ways to ensure that the Government responds to the challenges facing United States advanced manufacturers and ways that United States advanced manufacturers can ensure their continued competitiveness both at home and abroad. The Council is to advise the Secretary on government policies and programs that affect United States advanced manufacturing and provides a forum for discussing and proposing solutions to industry-related problems. The Council acts as a liaison among the stakeholders represented by the membership, and may provide a forum for those stakeholders on current and emerging issues in the advanced manufacturing sector.
How is membership balanced?*Currently, the Council holds no membership. However, the Council's membership will reflect the diversity of U.S. advanced manufacturing by representing a balanced cross-section of United States advanced manufacturing industry sectors, including entities from various geographic locations and businesses of varying size, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Estimated Number of Meetings per Year: 8.The meetings address issues that continually affect the U.S. manufacturing industry as well as issues that have newly arisen. Council recommendations are considered by an interagency review upon being adopted and feedback is provided to the Council to use in their subsequent work. The Council completes its work in working groups called subcommittees that are not separately chartered and that refer and convey work though the full Council. They meet via call or in-person immediately prior to the Council meetings. There are no members of subcommittees that are not members of the Council. These subcommittee work sessions do not incur cost separate of that to run the committee to and to staff the official meetings.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Council is essential to ensure that the United States advanced manufacturers can ensure their continued competitiveness both at home and abroad. There are no other committees that can fulfill this function.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public.
