How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee meets to review issues before the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council and offers advice for consideration at the next Trustee Council meeting. The committee uses ad hoc work groups to focus on issues at a more in-depth level.
How is membership balanced?*There are ten members, including a representative for each of the following interests: public at large, aquaculture/mariculture, commercial fishing, commercial tourism, environmental/conservation, Native landowners, recreation users, sport hunting/fishing, subsistence, and science/technology.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee usually meets once or twice per year, depending upon the issues before the Trustee Council and their desire to use the committee for advice.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*A vast amount of complex information is being developed and the use of the committee as part of a comprehensive public participation program is an efficient way to focus public attention on issues and receive informed input. The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill court settlement requires a public advisory group to advise the Trustee Council, which manages the restoration program.
Why close or partially close meetings?Meetings are open to the public.
Recommendation RemarksOne meeting was held in Fiscal Year 2020. This Committee continues to advise the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council, per the court-ordered consent decree and memorandum of agreement.
