How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The DAC will act solely in an advisory capacity and will not exercise program management responsibilities. Decisions directly affecting implementation of transportation policy will remain with the FAA Administrator and the Secretary of Transportation. The DAC will: a. Undertake only tasks assigned by the FAA.b. Deliberate on and approve recommendations for assigned tasks in meetings that are open to the public.c. Respond to ad-hoc informational requests from the FAA and or provide input to the FAA on the overall DAC structure (including the structure of subcommittees and or task groups).
How is membership balanced?*The DAC is structured to ensure a balance of various UAS and manned aviation stakeholders. The DAC will comprise 35 representatives from key UAS stakeholder organizations. The DAC chairperson and DAC DFO will review DAC membership annually to ensure balanced representation that equitably represents, to the extent feasible, the UAS stakeholder community. Membership is based on the ability to represent the interests of an organization or constituency authoritatively and effectively.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Estimated to hold 3 meeting annually.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The purpose of the DAC is to provide advice to FAA and key decision-makers to support the safe introduction of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS). The FAA has a compelling need to establish DAC in the public’s interest to identify and propose recommendations on how best to resolve key issues affecting the efficiency and safety of integrating UAS into NAS.
