How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The BLM's Las Cruces District RAC provides representative citizen council and advice to the Secretary of the Interior through the Bureau of Land Management's New Mexico State Director concerning the planning and management of public land resources located within the jurisdictional boundaries of the BLM’s Las Cruces District.
How is membership balanced?*The Las Cruces District Resource Advisory Council is composed of 10 members distributed in a balanced fashion among the following groups and within those groups. Specific interests include: Category I includes those holding Federal grazing permits or leases, interests associated with transportation or rights-of-way, developed outdoor recreation, OHV users, or commercial recreation activities, commercial timber industry, or energy and mineral development. Category II includes nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, dispersed recreation activities, archaeological and historical interests, or nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups. Category III includes state, county, or locally elected office-holders, employee of a State agency responsible for the management of natural resources, Indian Tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized, are employed as academicians in natural resource management or the natural sciences, or represent the public-at-large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Las Cruces District RAC met once in FY 2020. When meetings and field trips occur, they have been timely and relevant to actions occurring within the Las Cruces District.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The RAC develops recommendations for the BLM regarding the preparation, amendment, and implementation of land use plans for the public lands and resources within the jurisdiction of the RAC. This may require the RAC to, at the direction of the designated Federal officer, to gather and analyze information, conduct studies and field examinations, hear public comments, and provide advice on the issues presented.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public. Notices of the meetings are published in the Federal Register, posted on the BLM New Mexico website, and distributed to local newspapers.
Recommendation RemarksThe Las Cruces District Resource Advisory Council (73658) was consolidated with the Pecos District Resource Advisory Council (73657) into a single Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council (84601) effective June 18, 2020.
