How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Section 3302(a)(1) of the Zadroga Act establishes that the Advisory Committee will review scientific and medical evidence and make recommendations to the WTC Program Administrator on additional WTC Health Program eligibility criteria, additional WTC-related health conditions, and research needs. The committee may be consulted on other matters as related to and outlined in the Act at the discretion of the WTC Program Administrator.
How is membership balanced?*It is anticipated that the WTCHP STAC will consist of at least 17 members. Because the focus of this committee is on the World Trade Center disaster, members with experience in treating WTC diseases will be needed. As much as possible, this committee will have both geographic diversity and a diverse makeup. The membership of the WTCHP STAC will, at minimun, consist of 4 occupational physicians, at least two of whom have experience treating WTC rescue and recovery workers; 1 physician with expertise in pulmonary medicine; 2 environmental medicine or environmental health specialists; 3 representatives of WTC responders; 3 representatives of certified-eligible WTC survivors; an industrial hygienist; a toxicologist; an epidemiologist; and a mental health professional. Additional members may be appointed at the discretion of the WTC Program Administrator.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Meetings are called as needed to inform the WTCHP Program Administrator on issues required by the statute. The meetings are highly relevant to the WTCHP. In FY19, one meeting was held to provide input on WTC research activities and on the development of the Inventory of 9/11 Agents. No meeting was held in FY20.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The committee was established as required by Public Law 111-347 (The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010).
Why close or partially close meetings?NA
Recommendation RemarksA recommendation was made during the FY19 meeting but was not sent to the Administrator until FY20.
