How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Through the Committee's open meetings, a public forum is provided through which NPS Concession Program issues and updates are disseminated and public comments are received for consideration by the Committee in its deliberations and formulation of advice and recommendations. The Board acts as a hospitality industry and business program advisory committee to the National Park Service to provide public input and policy guidance on operations, improved visitor services, and management of the concessions program and its facilities.Public Law 111-11 signed by the President on March 30, 2009, re-established the Board legislatively through December 31, 2009. On March 26, 2010, the Secretary of the Interior authorized the Board to continue in effect as a discretionary committee from January 1, 2010, pursuant to authority in Section 3 of Public Law 91-383 (16 U.S.C. 1a-2c), until it may be legislatively re-authorized, provided that it is renewed every 2 years in accordance with the provisions of FACA.
How is membership balanced?*Membership on the seven-member Board is as prescribed by Public Law 105-391. Members are appointed by the Secretary of the Interior from among citizens of the United States not in the employment of the Federal Government and not in the employment of or having an interest in a National Park Service concession operation. The seven members are as follows: (a) one member privately employed in the hospitality industry having both broad knowledge of hotel or food service management and experience in the parks and recreation concessions business; (b) one member privately employed in the tourism industry; (c) one member privately employed in the accounting industry; (d) one member privately employed in the outfitting and guide industry; (e) one member a State government employee with expertise in park concession management; (f) one member active in promotion of traditional arts and crafts; and, (g) one member active in a nonprofit conservation organization involved in parks and recreation programs.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*No Meetings were held this Fiscal Year. Meetings are held approximately one to two times a year, although the Board may convene more often if there is an immediate need for consultation, advice and review. Meetings are always relevant to the Board's purpose and charter.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The National Park Service Concessions Management Advisory Board has been established pursuant to Public Law 105-391 to advise the Secretary of the Interior and the National Park Service on matters relating to management of concessions in the National Park System.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open.
Recommendation RemarksNo meetings were held this fiscal year. The National Park Service Concessions Management Advisory Board successfully accomplished its stated objectives. As a result, the Department of the Interior did not renew the charter and the Committee terminated on April 2, 2016.

In 2015, the Program re-evaluated the role of the Board as major changes have been implemented (based on Board recommendations) and the program has matured. The challenges for the program are much different than in 1998, and the Board could be terminated or possibly restructured in order to best serve the concessions program.

Public Law 111-11 signed by the President on March 30, 2009 re-established the Board legislatively through December 31, 2009.
