How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The objectives of the Diversity Committee are as follows: 1) create an environment by which all Americans, including minorities and women, have access to participation in the communications industry, 2) create training and employment opportunities in the communications sector for minorities and women to move up to senior level management and ownership, and 3) identify the impact of new and emerging technologies on diversity issues. The responsibilities of the Diversity Committee are to: 1) develop a set of recommendations including regulatory actions, education initiatives and potential legislative initiatives to promote and enhance opportunities for minorities and women in the communications sector, 2) prepare periodic and final reports to the Commission to aid in its oversight responsibilities, and 3) develop a description of best practices for promoting diversity of participation in the telecommunications industry.
How is membership balanced?*Membership is solicited from all facets of the telecommunications industry, including representation from the industry's financial and technical sectors.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The committee meets two to three times per year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*A FACA committee is the most ideal forum to promote the exchange and interaction of opinions and viewpoints on the ability of women and minorities to participate in the telecommunications sector. The Diversity Committee will assist the Federal Communications Commission in developing regulatory policies for the communications industry that are consistent with its goal of providing access and participation for all Americans. The expertise of those currently working in these markets will enable the Committee to provide practical advice from a perspective not available to the Commission. The emergence of new technologies has created unique diversity issues in the communications sector relating to ownership, employment, and training opportunities.
Why close or partially close meetings? Not Applicable
Recommendation RemarksMembership appointments are not for any fixed term, and the appointment dates listed reflect the term of the charter.
