How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Advisory Commission on Accessible Instructional Materials in Postsecondary Education for Students with Disabilities (AIM Commission), accomplishes its purpose by studying the barriers to and recommendations for accessible instructional materials in postsecondary education. The Commission has divided up into four task forces, and the task forces are exploring the six legislative considerations mandated by the legislation. During each meeting, the task forces presented their studies, which in turn, were agreed upon and added to by all Commission members and then incorporated into the final report.
How is membership balanced?*There are 19 total members on the AIM Commission. Of the 19 members, 4 members are federal government employees, 8 members are Special Government Employees (SGEs), and 7 members are representatives of organizations that were mandated to be represented by the Higher Education Opportunity Act (2008). Please note: The member from the Library of Congress resigned effective September 2011.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*In FY 2012, there were no public meetings. Rather, there was one report working group that occurred in October 2012.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The AIM Commission was mandated by Congress in the Higher Education Opportunity Act (2008) and is a legislative mandate.

Recommendation RemarksThe Higher Education Opportunity Act (2008)directed the Commission to assess the barriers and issues related to accessible instructional materials for students in postsecondary education. The report presenting the recommendations is due to Congress and the Secretary on November 30, 2011.
