How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The purpose of the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on Leadership and Management is to serve the Secretary in an advisory capacity with respect to leadership, management, and other issues of interest to the Department.The Committee will meet at least once a calendar quarter in full and as necessary for the working group/subcommittees. There will be as many working groups as necessary to accomplish the goals of the committee.
How is membership balanced?*The Board is comprised of no more than twenty-five U.S. citizens, whomthe Secretary appoints. The members may include former senior U.S. government officials and Members of Congress and representatives of corporations, not-for-profit non-government organizations, professional associations, public policy organizations, academic institutions, and other experts in leadership and management issues. The composition of the Committee is balanced in terms of the points of view represented. The Secretary or his or her designee serves as an ex officio member.

Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Department of State's role as the primary foreign affairs agency requires unparalled excellence in its leaders and managers. This committee seeks to institutionalize the commitment of the Department to this goal.
Why close or partially close meetings?In order to receive classified briefings and to discuss classified information and proprietary commercial and financial information that is considered privaleged and confidential.Portion of the meeting closed to the public pursuant to Section 10(d) of the FACA and 5 U.S.C. 552b (c)(1) and 552b (c)(4).
