How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders shall, through the Secretary of Commerce, advise the President on efforts to provide equal economic opportunities for full participation of Asian American and Pacific Islander businesses in our free market economy where they may be underserved and thus improve the quality of life for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Commission shall examine and provide policy recommendations in the form of a comprehensive report on: (1) Federal efforts to improve the economic and community development of Asian American and Pacific Islander business; and (2) ways to increase the business diversification of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Commission submitted its report to the President, through the Secretary of Commerce, on May 7, 2007.
How is membership balanced?*The Commission shall consist of no more than 15 members appointed by the President who have a history of involvement with the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities; are from the business enterprise sector; are from civic associations representing one or more of the diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander communities; are from the fields of economic, social and community development; or have other experiences as the President deems appropriate.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Commission held three (3) public meetings during FY 2007. The meetings are necessary to fully deliberate the Commission's recommendations in a public forum. The meetings also provide the Commission with an opportunity for public comments.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*This Committee is essential to the Department in order to satisfy the responsibilities of the Secretary of Commerce under E.O. 13339, as amended by E.O. 13403. No other Committee exists to serve the purposes of E.O. 13339.
