How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*This Committee was established by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to assist the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in implementing the recommendations of the terminated Chiropractic Advisory Committee. It should be noted that providing chiropractic health services within VA meets a congressional directive and complements the array of other health care services now available at VA. This Committee produced its final report December 2005 summarizing the work of the Committee and containing 9 recommendations and suggestions for future improvement and development of the chiropractic care program.
How is membership balanced?*Committee membership provided a multi-disciplinary mix of doctors of chiropractic, allopathic and osteopathic physicians, a physical therapist, and a representative from a veterans service organization. Two members were health care providers within VA; other members were in private practice, academic positions, and a state agency. Memmbers represented the interests of VA patients, VA employees, and VA medical facility administrators.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee held three meetings in March, September and December 2005. The Committee was charged with providing advice on the implementation and evaluation of the chiropractic care program in Veterans Health Administration.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The duties and functions of the Committee could not be duplicated within VA. The Committee, composed partially of private sector professionals in the chiropractic care arena, provided a body of expertise that VA does not now have. It is also important to note that the committee members' breath of knowledge and experience in chiropractic care was a critical component of fairly assessing the overall program and evaluating the quality of specific services during the preliminary phases of program operation.
Why close or partially close meetings?Meetings were open.
