How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The USDA Technology and eGovernment Advisory Council shall seek input from a broad base of USDA customers, partners, and employees into the Department's planning and implementation of technology solutions to produce maximum benefits. This council shall provide advice and recommendations on the strategy, planned development, deployment and implementation of technology solutions across USDA, including eGovernment initiatives and other IT investments that impact USDA customers, employees, agricultural markets, and mission areas.
How is membership balanced?*The Secretary shall appoint 9 members that have an extensive background in the mission areas of USDA and the management and use of information and information technology required to deliver USDA programs. USDA employees may be appointed to the council. The Secretary will designate a chairperson based on the above criteria and additional leadership experience. Membership shall include those with demonstrated ability to represent minorities, women, and persons with disabilities.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Estimated Number of Meetings per Year - 2 Estimated Total Meetings - 4
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The USDA Technology and eGovernment Adivsory Council is essential because USDA invests over $2 billion annually on information technology solutions that support program delivery. The Department is responsible for ensuring these funds are invested wisely and providing the customers with the maximum possible benefit. This council will fill this need by consulting with and incorporating into our plans expert advice from the cutomers, partners, and employees. This will result in improved technology management. Within the USDA, there is a lack of coordination and information sharing on how the Department can best leverage IT resources. This council will fill this need by combining information and technology from the different agencies, letting them work as one unit.
Why close or partially close meetings? The Council discussed their working documents in preparation for their final report to the Secretary.
