How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee provides direct assistance and advice to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in the development and implementation of the chiropractic health program. Matters on which the Committee assist and advise the Secretary include: protocols governing referrals to chiropractors; protocols governing direct access to chiropractic care; protocols governing scope of practice of chiropractic practitioners; definitions of services to be provided; and such other matters as the Secretary determines to be appropriate. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs established a discretionary advisory committee to assist the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in implementing the recommendations of the Chiropractic Advisory Committee. The Chiropractic Advisory Committee held its final meeting and submitted its final report to the Secretary.
How is membership balanced?*Geographic, ethnic, gender representations, as well as a spectrum of professional and veterans advocacy representation, are attributes highly valued within the Committee and pertinent to the group's deliberations. Public Law 107-135 states Membership will shall include members of the chiropractic care profession and such other members as the Secretary considers appropriate.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee met once in Fy 2005 before termination.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee is providing advice to the Secretary regarding the development and implementation of a chiropractic care program within Veterans Health Administration. In carrying out its responsibilities, the Committee is providing a cross section of views and expertise which is not currently available within VA.
