How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*SOLICIT THE VIEWS OF A WIDE VARIETY OF FARMWORKER GROUPS SERVING THE NEEDS OF MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKERS, INCLUDING ORGANIZATIONS OPERATING EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS FUNDED UNDER WIA 167, ON ISSUES AFFECTING THE OPERATION, ADMINISTRATION AND PERFORMANCE OF SUCH PROGRAMS. THE COMMITTEE WILL ADVISE THE SECRETARY OF LABOR WITH RESPECT TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAMS UNDER SECTION 167 AND OTHER PROGRAMS PROVIDING SERVICES TO MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKERS. THE COMMITTEE WILL PROMOTE EFFECTIVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE WIA ONE-STOP DELIVERY SYSTEMS AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVELS. PREPARE AND SUBMIT DIRECTLY TO THE SECRETARY OF LABOR AND ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING, NOT LATER THAN JANUARY 1 OF EACH EVEN-NUMBERED YEAR A REPORT CONTAINING INFORMATION ON THE PROGRESS OF MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKER JOB TRAINING PTOGRAMS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVING THEIR ADMINISTRATION AND EFFECTIVENESS
How is membership balanced?*THE COMMITTEE WILL CONSIST OF APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN REPRESENTATIVES AS FOLLOWS: TWELVE FROM THE NATIONAL FARMWORKER JOB PROGRAM (NFJP) WITH FIELD EXPERIENCE IN THE DAILY OPERATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKER PROGRAMS, APPOINTED BY THE SECRETARY OF LABOR FROM AMONG INDIVIDUALS NOMINATED BY THE NFJP GRANTEE ORGANIZATIONS, AND THREE REPRESENTATIVES FROM ORGANIZATIONS, ASSOCIATIONS AND OTHER FEDERAL AGENCIES WITH EXPERTISE RELATIVE TO MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKERS, TO BE APPOINTED DIRECTLY BY THE SECRETARY OF LABOR. THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMITTEE SHALL REPRESENT ALLL GEOGRAPHIC AREAS OF THE UNITED STATES, INCLUDING THE COMMONWEALTH OF PUERTO RICO, WITH A SUBSTANTIAL MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKER POPULATION.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*THE COMMITTEE SHALL MEET NOT LESS OFTEN THAN TWICE EACH PROGRAM YEAR. THE MEETINGS PROVIDE THE PRIMARY VECHILE FOR THE COMMITTEE TO FULLFILL ITS ROLE UNDER THE CHARTER. The last meeting of the Comnmnittee was held on August 16, 2001.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*IN 1997, THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR ESTABLISHED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE JOB TRAINING PARTNERSHIP ACT MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKER GRANTEES BASED ON RESPECT, TRUST AND MUTUAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROGRAM RESULTS. THIS PARTNERSHIP CONTINUES TO PROVIDE MANY POSITIVE PROGRAM IMPROVEMENTS AS WELL AS GREATER ADMINISTRATIVE STABILITY AND STATURE AS AN OFFICIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT.
