How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Commission accomplished its purpose by holding meetings with community experts to gather information for their March report that was presented to the President on March 15, 1999. The report offered recommendations on ways to celebrate women's history. In September, the Commission published a How-To Community Handbook outlining 10 ideas of celebrating in communities.
How is membership balanced?*The Commission includes private sector experts in the fields of Women's Studies and African American Studies, Social Historian, Americans for Indian Opportunity, Coalition of Labor Union Women, as well as Asian American Studies and Comparative Ethnic Studies.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Commission has held 3 meetings over the past year. During that time, the Committee was able to accomplish their objective of gathering information for the report.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The information that is provided to the Comission in these meetings is unique in that it provides a perspective from the private sector and the opportunity to question a broad spectrum of experts and interested people. The information needed cannot be obtained from Federal agencies. By calling on community leaders and business and industry representatives, the Commission is able to gain a unique insight from the private sector on ideas of the most effective ways to commemorate the achievements of American women.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A.
